DOWNTOWN EVENTS STAFF & GROUNDSKEEPER
Job Description


The City of Concordia is seeking to fill the part time position of Downtown Events Staff & Groundskeeper.
 This position performs semi-skilled, manual work, involving the cleaning, groundskeeping and maintenance of downtown Concordia and Broadway Plaza. Also included is assisting with set-up and clean-up of special events, and operating equipment specific to the area. Work involves interaction with other City employees, the general public, business owners, and other patrons of the Broadway Plaza and downtown. This position requires working various days of the week (including many weekends and holidays), and various hours of the day, which are subject to change on a weekly basis depending on the events scheduled in the area. This position must work independently without close supervision.

 Deadline:  City of Concordia will accept applications until the position is filled. First review of applications will take place April 13. The position is part time, approximately 20 hours per week.

Reserve Firefighter or EMT
Firefighter: Under supervision, the Reserve Firefighter performs specialized work in the prevention and suppression of fires, as well as operating and maintaining fire department equipment and apparatus. Essential Functions: Respond to fire alarms; Make forcible entry into buildings when necessary; Combat fires;  Operate a variety of hand tools and equipment including power saws, hydraulic equipment, generators, fans, ladders etc.; Maintain and clean fire station, vehicles and equipment; Drives and operates fire department vehicles and equipment; Assist in inspections, prevention, and public education activities; Attend drills and classes for firefighters; Promote a professional image to co-workers and the public; Required to work twelve voluntary hours a month with on shift crew. EMT: Under supervision, the Reserve EMT performs specialized work in providing life saving services (EMS). EMT duties include responding with the ambulance to emergency calls. Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures, but independent judgment maybe required in certain circumstances. Essential Functions: Respond to ambulance calls; Make forcible entry into buildings when necessary; Assist in rescue operations involving vehicle accidents and implement correct medical procedures to the sick and injured; Drive and operate vehicles and a variety of equipment; Perform maintenance work in the upkeep of station equipment and facilities; Assist in public education activities; Complete appropriate records and reports; Attend drills and classes for emergency medical services; Promote a professional image to co-workers and the public. Reserve Police Officer
A reserve police officer is to patrol in the incorporated city limits of Concordia and all city properties and respond to outside agency jurisdictions upon request for protection of life and property through the enforcement of city ordinances and state statues. Essential Functions: Complete intensive field and basic training during the early period of employment; participate in mandated in-service, firearms and other training; keep up to date on current laws and maintain a minimum of 20 training hours per year by K-CPOST and/or departmental regulations; Reserve Police Officers – Must complete specific field training program as outlined by department policy for solo qualifications to perform the majority of these duties; Follow the directions of full-time police officers and/or senior ranking reserve officers/part-time officers in assigned duties and tasks; Operate an automobile while patrolling the city for the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations, maintaining communications with the dispatcher; responding to radio and telephone dispatches to complaints, disorders, crimes, accidents, and make every effort to restore peace and order; Perform initial investigations and assist in follow up in the investigation of crimes involving adults and juveniles; Make arrests, transport prisoners and assist with booking when necessary, issue citations, give verbal and written warnings, prepare reports on arrests and all incidents investigated, serve papers, summons and subpoenas; document, preserve and collect evidence of crimes; appear and testify in court; Assist with traffic control at scenes of emergencies, as a first responder give aid to injured persons and request medical attention when necessary; Note and report traffic hazards, give directions and information, perform business checks, inspect establishments providing alcoholic beverages and entertainment, interrogate persons whose actions are suspicious; Assist fire/EMS, other city, state and federal agencies, as situations require; Complete check on patrol vehicle and assigned equipment at the beginning of each patrol.
